Works Completed at Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross

September  2017

Highways UK has completed work on Packhorse Road in Gerrards Cross to improve traffic and pedestrian facilities. The scheme started several years ago when Highways UK was appointed to provide a design to improve traffic flow and allow easier pedestrian movements along the Packhorse Road. The design was presented at public consultation and received overwhelming public support. the scheme included the removal of an existing signal controlled junction that was causing considerable congestion at peak times.

Highways UK was later appointed to provide the design build of the scheme which included relocation of a pedestrian crossing, removal of the existing signal controlled junction, construction of a raised table, block paving, drainage works, lining and signing works.

Works started in July 2017 and where completed in September to coincide with the school summer holidays.

Animal Gardens Open In Time For Half Term With Help From Highways UK

April 2017

Highways UK was appointed to assist with the surfacing of the footpaths in the Animal Gardens at the Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell near Ware.

The Animal Garden at the Van Hage Garden Centre is a popular attraction visited by many families from all over Hertfordshire. The maintenance team needed a fast and reliable service from a surfacing supplier who could attend site at short notice and provide a tarmac surface for the Gardens footpaths. Highways UK was able to attend site and arrange to have the project undertaken within 4 days of getting the enquiry.

The site now has a solid footpath suitable for visitors with prams, wheelchairs and people with restricted mobility meaning that that this is a truly accessible garden that can be enjoyed by all.

The Gardens have a host of animals such as Chipmunks, Cockatiels, Giant and Dwarf Rabbits, Degus, Ducks, Ferrets, Geese, Goats, Guinea Foul, Guinea Pigs, Quail, Peafowl, Pheasants, Pigs, Terrapins and Turkeys. As well as the animal garden the Van Hage Garden Centre also boast a miniature railway, Cafe, and Farmers Markets.
